2003 June 08 Sunday.
Back in 2003, I threw together a page about depleted uranium, taking the view that this stuff is a major health hazard. However, over the last few days I've been in correspondence (by e-mail) with a guy who has been asking me where exactly is the evidence?
And I have to admit that I don't actually have a lot of data to back up my confident statements. The confidence stems not from knowing what I'm talking about but from:-
(a) a long-standing distrust of the entire nuclear industry;
(b) the perception that risks touted as "low-level" have a tendence to prove more dangerous than originally admitted, and
(c) the fact that a whole lot of other people believe that DU is a bad thing.
I have to say that I'm a little bit ashamed of (c).
So I decided it would be interesting to do some research on the Internet and to see what is actually out there.
The unfun part of this is that it is probably going to involve crunching a bunch of numbers to generate a heap of statistics, which (i) are not sexy and (ii) hurt my head. (I've never liked math.)
But that, as they say, is life.top
