Surreal poetry definition Surreal poetry is poetry which uses surreal images or deals with surreal situations. A surreal image is one which distorts reality to the point of impossibility. For example, the famous surrealist painter Salvador Dali produced a picture incorporating images of melting clocks. The melting clocks are not abstract but they are impossible, and fit nicely into the category of the "surreal".
